A Day To Remember Face - Getting my rock on with MAC Heroine

I went to fesitival hall on Sunday night in Melbourne to see one of my favourite bands play. A Day to Remember were amazing!

Since a lot of people would be there, and I could possibly throw myself into the mosh pit, I needed to apply products that were long lasting so when I came out of the pit, I still looked half decent (even with half a litre of other people's sweat all over my body).

Beauty tips and fixes.

Here are some of the tips and fixes that I have found to be quite useful for myself to apply makeup more easier. These are the ones I have found over the years in magazines, videos on YouTube, books or other beauty related resources, so a little disclaimer: I am not claiming these tips on my own, nor am I saying I created them, the purpose of this post is to share.

- Tip #1 Removing mascara mistakes around the eye -
Cotton tips are your best friend in this situation. They're a staple to have around in general when doing your makeup. In this case, if you managed to get some mascara underneath your eye, or on your eye lid, wait for it to dry, then use light sweeping motion to flack the dry mascara right off. Waiting for the mascara to dry is important, if you don't, then you will be smudging the mascara, possibly ruining your eye shadow and foundation around the eye area. Using light sweeping motions is important too, if you use too much pressure, you might remove your eye shadow and foundation in the process.

I've been using this for years, ever since I started wearing makeup. I believe I found this tip in a Dolly Magazine (back in the day) and they were interviewing Napoleon Perdis on makeup (obviously lol).

-Tip #2 Using a mattifying powder to set oily eyelids -
Generally speaking, your eyelids are the most oiliest part of your face. With myself, it's in competition with my nose for that title. A powder product that has the purpose to keep oil at bay by absorbing it, etc. is perfect for this, such as the Rimmel Stay Matte. I use a translucent loose powder, and sweep across my eyelids after applying my foundation and concealer, or if I decide to use an eye primer, I apply the powder afterwards. It gives me a significant difference of the longevity of my eye shadow, as well as the prevention creasing.

I learnt this tip from the one and only, Rae Morris in one of her books...she is a god.

- Tip #3 Applying cream or liquid blushes, illuminator, etc. with ease -
Having oily skin, I thought always had to opt for the 'matte' look, and I was tired of it. Now, my love for cream blushes, etc. has grown to give me that dewy look to my skin. After I apply my foundation and concealer with a brush (I use the same brush for both), I use the same brush to apply my cream brush and liquid highlighter. I swirl my brush in the pot only using the tips of the bristles, then I apply it to my cheeks using a bouncing motion. Having leftover foundation on the brush comes in handy as there is less of a chance of rubbing off the foundation and concealer you had before, and more of a chance of making the cream blend easier. This also saves me the amount of brushes I use.

- Tip #4 Using your concealer to clean up and sharpen those edges - 
This one is very popular, but still worth sharing, I cannot believe it took me so long to put this tip to use. Now I cannot miss it in my makeup routine. Using a small flat brush with relatively sharp point, apply concealer to sharpen your lip line when going for a bold red lip, your winged out eye shadow or liner, or to clean up any smudgy mess. Perfect.

This month, I went a bit crazy. Being really busy with studying for exams, so sorry for the lack of posts, but I am now finished! YAY! So to celebrate, as well as taking that advantage of exam stress to use as an excuse to participate in retail therapy, I present to you a big ass haul.

There is a sale that goes on a couple times a year done by the Heat Group and they sell heavily discounted items from Max Factor, Bourjois, Covergirl, Essence, etc. If you are in reach of Caribbean Gardens in Victoria, I suggest you look up Heat Group on Facebook, as well as their website to check out their next sale because it's so worth going to. Everything Essence was $2, Bourjois Foundations $8, Max Factor mascaras $3 to name a few bargains. Prices change a fair bit each sale, but a bargain is a bargain.

May Empties

Here are my empties for this month (from left to right):

- Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation in 53 - I have two other shades in this foundation, but since I got this shade at a makeup sale, the actual product was quite old, so the formula has gone off. - Rimmel Recover Anti-Fatigue Concealer - this concealer is discontinued, and it is quite old, so it was time to chuck it out. It wasn't a great product, but it wasn't too bad either.

- Cetaphil Moisterising Lotion - I have dermatitis on my hands, as well as other rough patches of skin on my body. This cream was alright, I wouldn't repurchase it though since I have found better.

- Invite-E Vitamin E Cream - I love this stuff and I need to repurchase it. I use for my hands and body to moisturize, and face to reduce scarring. It's very concentrated and it nourishes my skin.

- Face of Australia Face Base Primer - again, love love love. I have repurchased this in my Priceline Haul.

- MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash Mascara - the blackest mascara I have ever used as well as one of the worst. It just made my lashes stick together and it went off pretty quickly.

- Max Factor 2000 Calorie Mascara - one of my favourite mascaras, I love this for day time.

- Neutrogena Healthy Lengths Mascara - it smudges and transfers all over my eye lids, in the bin it goes.

What products did you chuck out this month?

April favourites.

I'm testing out quite a few products half way during the month due to recent hauls, but there has been a few stand outs throughout the whole month of April.

- Bourjois Healthy Mix Concealer in 53 - amazing coverage, it is a bit light to conceal blemishes at the moment, but it is so pigmented it covers the blue and brightens the area under my eyes. $24.

- B by Bloom Collection Col.lecta Colour Cheek Tint in Yara Valley - it's gives an amazing natural glow (and it doesn't contain any shimmer) as well as adding a nice apricot pink sheen to the cheeks, I adore this product. $19.95.

- Essence Fix and Matte! Translucent Loose Powder - I love this to set my concealer, it doesn't leave any white cast behind and your skin feels amazingly soft after you apply it. $6.95.

- Extra Virgin Olive Oil with Daiso Sponge Detergent- after watching Amy on YouTube (amysass), I have been getting into using this to condition my brushes by mixing it with my Daiso Sponge Detergent, and it leaves my brushes extra soft with no oily residue. Daiso Sponge Detergent $2.80.

- Essence Eyebrow Stylist Set - ever since I've gotten this from the Priceline sale, I've been using this everyday to fill in my brows, the dark brown colour isn't too dark for my brows and the lighter colour isn't too light, it's the perfect duo. $4.95.

- Vaseline White Petroleum Jelly - small, cute and softens my dry cracked lips overnight. $2.39.
